Saint Ana Lake

• Saint Ana Lake is a volcanic lake, being the only one of his kind in Romania. Is placed in the Ciumatu Mare mountain, on the left side of Olt River, closed to Tusnad. The lake is placed on a inactive volcano crater called Puciosu, the place of the newest volcanic eruption from the Carapatian Mountains and from the Eastern Europe, that took place a few tens of thousands of years ago (most likely 42.000 years). Saint Ana Lake is placed at 946 meters above the sea level. Having circular shape, like a foot palette, it’s 620 meters long and 420 meters width, having 19.5 hectares surface and a maximum depth of 7 meters. The lake is refilled only by the rains, not having any springs. The purity of the water is closed to the distilled water, with only 0.0029 ml of minerals. In the water is no oxygen and because of this no fishes are living inside of it. Near Saint Ana Lake it’s a Romano - catholic chapel protected by Saint Ana.
